January Update!

I just completed my 3rd run this week of 1.5 miles. I know that that's probably nothin' to some of you seasoned exercisers out there, but for me....? Wow!!!!! I am so proud of myself!!! And it's getting easier too.

So.....This morning I came in to find Jake sharing a "treat" with Grant. GUM. Jake likes to climb up onto the counter and get into our "treat" closet, where we keep all of the goodies around here. For some reason Jake is really into gum, and apparently he decided to share the minty goodness with his little brother. I'm just surprised that Grant liked it so much. (Look close and you can see baby Grant's two new toothers, along with a stick of gum!!!)

Oh, the joys of having two babies!

Actually, I've been relishing it lately.

It really is quite fun.

Last night after supper the babies got to take side-by-side baths in the sink.

Last week I made a little kitchen art, some that I had seen at Holly's!

Easy-peasy!!!

I just spraypainted the flatware and frame, covered the back in fabric, and hot-glued.

I like it a lot.

We've been working around the house, and last weekend added some color to our kitchen.

Jeron did a great job!!!!!

Other news for us: we've been working on the garden daily, and we have spinach, swiss chard, peas, and carrots going to town! And Jeron bought and planted 10 fruit trees yesterday, so it won't be long before we enjoy that too!!!!

Finally I figured out how to get our blog working again! Yay! So here I go again...

My new year resolution this year is to exercise for 7 hours/week (i.e. daily) and to eat healthily in order to get my chubbies OFF!!! Alisa gave me the diet she got from her nutritionist.

Alisa, Megan, Mom, and my friend Becky (and her family) are all focusing on losing weight this year. I'm so glad we're all doing it together. It makes it so much easier.... every time I want to cheat I think... "DANG IT! I don't want them to beat me!!! I don't want to be the last chubby one when all is said and done!!!"

As an additional incentive, I bet Jolyn will probably get married this next year and I want to look good because EVERYONE the Hatch's know will be there.

Plus I've been leading a pretty sad life this last bit. Nothing fits- not even my fat clothes. Being tired..... all the time. Not wanting to play with the kids, having a hard time sitting on the ground when I teach my Sunbeams each Sunday... the list goes on!

It's time for me. Baby Grant is 6 months old. He slept until 4:30 last night! Yay! The boys are getting to be better helpers. Plus, if not now, WHEN? I'm turning 30 this year, and I want it to be a great year for me.

Today has already been a great day! And it's only 10:30!!

We woke up early and Jeron took the 3 older boys to setup for our ward party this morning.

I ran to a nearby park and got my "bountiful basket". It was awesome. Only $15 for all of this!

At the ward party we had breakfast and a water fight.

Lots of fun for the kids...

...except for poor Jakey

(his poor feet are still hurting from the other day when he fell

and scraped his face, knees, and tops of his feet).

Boys Bedroom

We've had fun decorating the boys room,

using what we have on hand, and finding some good deals here and there.

For a long time, I've wanted to make a "missionary wall", with a big world map and pictures of all of our missionaries in our family. I thought the boy's room would be the perfect spot for this. And so today, with the help of Jolyn, we busted out the vinyl and created our own little version.

Large map of the World- $5, Deseret Industries Thrift Store.

(One day I'd like to repaint the gold frame navy or black with metal paint. )

Jolyn and I couldn't stop at just one with the vinyl, though!
We made some perfect artwork for our little Star-Wars themed room.

Vinyl, $5.

And on to other accessories....

I found these navy curtains on clearance at Target ($10).
The silver curtain rod (free) was from our other house.

We bought this vintage looking Star Wars poster at K-Mart ($6), Frame Target ($12, clearance).

And we repainted the boy's bunkbed with the same paint that had on hand from when we painted the dressor. (Pics still to come)

And later we found a funky grey-shag rug sealed the deal.
Target, $90.

And Hyrum couldn't live without this Master Yoda plush toy/pillow, so we got that too.

We splurged.

Target, $20.

And another splurge, bedding,

Pottery Barn $240 for 4 pillowcases and 2 duvet covers.

I know, I know. Pricey.

But the print was worth the price. It was just what we wanted!
Two of the pillowcases were shipped, but the other bedding is on back-order so we'll have to wait a few weeks to see the final product!

Total: $388.00

Remaining in our budget:

$500-$93(dresser & paint)=$407

$407-$388 (bedding, curtains, art, accessories)=$19

Whew, we're getting close!

Bread day!

Hyrum and I decided to make Wednesday our baking day, and we made 3 types of bread. Challah, Whole Wheat, and French. Here are our results!

Challah Bread

(Almost) 5 Stars!

This bread was easy (we used the bread machine to mix it), tasty, and so pretty! Only problem, I overcooked it so the crust was a little to crispy. Overall, great!

Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

4 Stars!

This recipe also was an easy- mixed up in the mixer. But the bottom stuck to the breadpan a little, even with sufficient greasing. (Hmm....? I have never had luck with Whole Wheat bread.) It stays together nice when cut, and tastes great.

French Bread

3 Stars!

Looks pretty, tastes good, but this recipe was TOO MUCH WORK! (Mix, let rise, mix let rise, mix, let rise, refrigerate 24 hours, let rise, bake. ) Wow. A day's worth of work for 2 small baguettes? Never again.

Boys Bedroom- Dresser "Before" Pics

Ever since we've moved, the boys have needed a dresser.

I headed down to Salvation Army to see what they had. What I was looking for: a well made, wood dresser that I could potentially refinish to match the room.

Once there, I found a yellowy-green smaller sized, 4-drawer dresser with funky handle-pulls that was well made, but $90!!! Yikes- too much.

But after going home and looking around more, I still liked it. So I returned and .... I asked if they could lower the price. And they said yes. While it still was a small splurge at $60, I can tell from the craftmanship that it will last.

I had to nail/glue one of the drawer brackets, but aside from that it was ready to be refinished.

Dresser~ $60 (Salvation Army)

Grey-blue paint~ $13 (Lowes)

New hardware (drawer pulls)~ $2.50 X 8=$20 (Lowes)

We have been redecorating the boys room, a-la "Star Wars". I was inspired by the new PBK Star Wars line.

Now that the kitchen and bedrooms are semi-set up, I really want to work on our guest room so we can get it ready for friends who want to come over!

It is a disaster zone right now!!!

For the guest room, we've finally decided to get a daybed with a pop-out trundle, so that we can have room for guests, as well as keeping the room open for other activities~ crafts, office stuff, etc.

Let me tell you, it is hard to find a cute daybed... they aren't always the nicest household furnishing. But I was happy because I just found this daybed on Craigslist for $250 and it includes a cute bookshelf.

Well, happy day today~ Jeron's work was cancelled due to "Rainy Day Schedule"!!! And thank goodness, too, because we needed him to take Thomas to school in Uncle David's 4WD Truck, due to the rain last night.

We are literally living on a lakeside property this morning!!!

Oh, fun. Our neighbors George and Mary told us that they hate the rain, because all it means is mud. But we still are lovin' it! What a great day!!!

A naked shaking booty, and other wonderful things....

Lately Jake has taken to pulling himself up to the end of our bed, and "dancing" by shaking himself. He does it especially when I sing, which cracks me up. Naked or clothed, he doesn't care just as long as he gets to shake it. I only got a short clip of it.... makes me laugh every time.

And on to other wonderful things... I have decided that October is the month to finish up my old unfinished projects. So yesterday I finished a wall hanging. I embroidered this pumpkin years ago- it was so easy! An easy explanation is this: choose a design/pattern/picture you like (I printed mine from online clip art), outline it on fabric with a pencil *lightly*, cut out fabric and under it put a thin layer of thin batting, pin and and then use embroidery thread to hand stitch! Super easy. I like the home-made look to it.

With some fall fabric I had to outline it, it turned out beeeee---utiful!

Also, I have been thinking a lot about color lately and how I love color combinations. While putting away dishes I realized that these 3 colors are soooooooooooo my favorite Halloween colors- Limey green, pale orange, and light purple. Love it.

Things have been going good this weekend.

Saturday I went to yard sales

and got some really fabulous finds!

Lots of Christmas Gifts!

(Did I mention that I have officially christened this Christmas........ "Homemade/ Second-Hand Christmas"? )Everything this year will be either handmade by yours truly with stuff I already have, or will be bought second hand. But not to worry- IT WILL BE AWESOME!

Anyway, back to my yard-sale adventures: My three best finds?

A new "diapee-wipee" (Diaper & Wipes) case for $1, A black & white toile shower curtain- $2, and this mirror with frame- $1.

(I bought it for the frame, because I was going to make a peice of acorn artwork with fabric. But thank goodness I decided to clean it up before I removed the glass, because I ended up loving it and leaving it just the way it was!)

After!! (Just a little windex and wood-cleaner was all it took!)

Happy thing #2:
I finished my fall "H" pillow! Yay!

It looks super cute. The brown bias-tape really makes the fall colors pop!

Now, my sad news.

I've been lovin my blog background (acorns), and so figured that I could make a cute peice of artwork copying it.

Everything was going so well.... I was even going to do a little tutorial (follow the pictures)....until....

It was looking so cute, all laid out and ready to go....

when....

The iron-on adhesive didn't work at all!

So I tried to improvise and sew around the acorns...

Crash and burn! Drats! Have you ever made something so ugly

it is better just to throw it away and start again....?

I did.

Anyway, sad for me and the wasted 2 hours I spent.

I'm still lovin' the acorns, though. I think I still need to try to duplicated it, maybe in a different medium... scrapbook paper with modge-podge? paint?

I experimented with Jolyn's cricut yesterday and we made some cute things besides the banners. Did you know that it can cut fabric? And cut out HUGE letters? We cut out our initial H, and came up with cute monogramed pillowcase- to be finished later today- won't it be fun?

out of paper, we cut another "H" to make a piece of art for the mantle.

One more thing today- I FINALLY took my camera when I picked up Hyrum from preschool. I've been wanting to take a picture of these REALLY cute bean-bag pumpkins his teacher made. But these are not ordinary pumpkins. They are EXTRAORDINARY! They are filled with beans, yes, but made with super soft fabric, and real stems are glued on top! What a cute idea!!!

Remember... when you carve your pumpkins this year, save your stems! (And your seeds, for that matter! More on that later...)

I found some interesting Martha Stewart bird stickers at Wal-Mart today- $3.50 for 5, or .70 cents a sticker (so a little pricey), but worth it.

Each candle was so different, I like them a lot.

It is nice to have a good stock of pretty, inexpensive, & homecrafted gifts.

How cute would it be to have banners in all themes: birthdays, holidays, sayings, etc.???

I made these this week:

I needed a quick & easy & cheap thank-you to give all of the sisters who helped at our RS Meeting. I came up with these Fall-themed candles.

So cheap- candles were $1 each at Wal-Mart, leaves were $1 for a huge bag (also at Wal-Mart), and I had the ribbon. & sooooo easy! I just tied the ribbon, cut it and added no-fray to the tips of the ribbon, and then hot-glued the leaves. Done. For about a dollar (& change).

Along the same line as I mentioned earlier, wouldn't it be cute to come up with other themes for these candles, in other colors? Birthdays, Christmas, Halloween? That is my job this week, to make a few more. I'll post when I come up with something great.

And to update, we had our Craft Night #2 awhile back and it was a BLAST! We made fabric pumpkins and carmel apples, and they were both fun. The pumpkins all turned out soooooooo different and all so cute. Here are mine:

But I have to say, I liked everyone else's so much (maybe more) than my own! I stayed traditional, whereas... Megan came up with a foot-long RED pumpkin, and Emily did a leapord-print pumpkin, as well as a white pumpkin. Very cute. :)

Jake was so wiggly this morning as I changed his diaper on the carpeted floor of his bedroom. Hyrum and Tommy came in to watch, as usual. Uh, oh... poopies! Jake was soooooooo stinky. And as I changed his diaper, he wiggled around and got his foot, hip, and leg in his diaper. What a mess.

As I finished changing him and wiped up his legs, he reached for one of the dirty wipes that was laying nearby, and tried to bring it to his mouth.

"No Jakers!", Tommy cried. "You can't eat poop! Only DOGS EAT POOP!". Wow.... True.

Yup, this is my life.

Jakers just turned 6 months yesterday! Whew! That flew by- (or at least the last 3 months did!) He is such an awesome baby.

He is starting to babble and says "da-da". He also pushes up on hands & feet and sticks his booty out every time you set him on the ground. And he can hang on to his crib railing while standing up- which he loves because then he can look out into his bedroom and spy on his brothers. He loves his brothers, but whenever Hyrum comes anywhere near him he screams out. But who can blame him? It is for his own safety... :) He is my lovey love love! Right now he is chillin' on my lap while I write this.

We got our lovely new van today! After we picked it up we washed it and cleaned it out at the carwash, then came home and Jeron gave it some extra love- cleaning every last bit of it! It is a joy to drive! Right now Mr.'s T & H are at Grandma Hatch's, and we can't wait until they get home to try it out on them!

And now, a couponing sucess! I went shopping tonight and came home with 3 bluging bags of groceries, all for $10.02 . I bought:
13 cans of cat/dog food
1 container of cascade dishwasher liquid
6 cans of ortega chilies
3 jars of Ragu spaghetti sauce
1 can of refried beans
1 pkg of taco seasoning
1 large pkg of aluminum foil
3 sour cream
8 mini ice cream cups

We found Chloe a happy new home with a young girl and her husband. I know she will be adored there!

We also went to the Heller's house to see their minivan, and we really liked it! There are a few funky things- dents, scratches, etc. But overall, a good purchase. We'll probably be getting it this week on Wednesday or Thursday. The funny thing- it will truly only have 1 more seat than my Crown Vic. But becasue of the way it is arranged, it will work out better. We'll have one less seat in the front, but 2 extra seats in the back. I think I will put Jake in the middle row, Hyrum too (since I often need to buckle him), and Thomas can get the back row to himself!

The Hellers are a fun and amazing family- ones that we would all truly enjoy hanging with if we ever lived closer! Some cute things: the kids call their dad "Babo" (both Jake & Carly served in Italy). The kids ask to be excused from the dinner table & they say "Yes sir/ma'am". They have a cute garden with all sorts of crazy vegetables growing from it- watermelons, canteloupe, peppers, tomatoes... Their Post grandparents have a miniature pony who is 24 yrs old named Oreo, and all the kids got to ride it yesterday! And probably most importantly- Jake & Carly are just "chill" parents- they don't seem to be the freak-out kind at all, not too overprotective, just very laid back & funloving.

We had so much fun going over to their house, eating dinner, visiting, and having the kids play. Life........is good.

This weekend has been so much fun! Thursday morning we went to the zoo with Melanie Garcia & Megan. Jeron got home early from work, so that gave me a chance to run to Sprouts & Blockbuster, and rent 5 movies. Thursday night we went over to mom & dads to swim at their neighbor Marty's house, then we watched "Premonition". Friday Jeron was off work, so we had just a good fun solid day working on the house, etc. Friday night we went out on a date with Sal & Christina & Joe/Maren Mike/Megan, and then after dinner we played games. Saturday morning we had the 4th of July breakfast at Papago Park, we climbed Hole in the Rock with the kids, and then we later went to Walmart. The kids picked out lunch- we had chicken strips & corndogs, pringles & chocolate milk. Later we went to Brian's and went swimming, and then to the Hatch's for a bbq cookout and then we watched the fireworks from the backyard. The view wasn't good, but aside from that we had lots of fun with family!

Today (Sunday) was church, but the air was broken so we only had an opening song, the sacrament, and a closing prayer. Then later for dinner we went over to the Mckellar's for dinner and a walk/bike ride/frisbee game! The older two boys get to spend the night at Grandma's, and Jake's at home with us. Oh! I almost forgot! We have a happy announcement! As of last night, Jake is now sleeping in a big boy crib in the boy's room! Yeah!!!

We went to Peter Piper for their summer program today- we got to write letters to the troops, and meet some servicemen. The kids loved it! (Poor Hyrum had an accident at the pizza parlor, though!)

Jake is 18 weeks today! He's getting so big- he coos a lot, and rolls around, and has the biggest head of fluffy comb-over hair you've ever seen.

Tomorrow is July 1st, which means its the 2nd half of 2009 already! This year is just flying by!

Tommy stayed in CA with Aunt Holly & the family for some extra days. He got home tonight- we're glad he's home! We really missed him.

Tonight there was a youth fireside by President Alvarado. There was a Q&A session where anyone could ask anything, and I asked him what he liked to do for fun, in his spare time. He said "Church work". I want to be like that.

Christina Flores is amazing! I think she and I will definately be good friends. Friday night we're all going to go out and eat sushi and go bowling. I have nnnnnnnnnever eaten sushi. Yucky. Hopefully it's not what I think.

Sadly, today we thought Chloe was lost- the last time anyone remembered seeing her was yesterday. So, I put up an ad on Craigslist that said a little something like this:

Our 7 year old Pug Chloe was lost yesterday. She is chubby, has crooked teeth, and was last seen wearing an AZ Diamondbacks collar...

Anyway, happily, after the ad was posted and I had looked (almost) everywhere... we found Chloe in our very own house. I think she had been stuck under the kids bunkbed. Yikes. Poor girl. Anyway, we were happy to find her. And reading my post on Craigslist now makes me laugh, even though at the time I posted it I was not laughing, but was feeling rather solemn knowing that I was a bad pet parent. Anyway, we love Chloe, but if you feel like you could provide a better home for her, let us know and we'll think about it. She really is a good dog... she deserves better.

And on another interesting note, today I reached a personal all-time low and had to stage my own intervention: a whooping 3-days without a shower (hey, I did go swimming... & don't diss- I was realllllllly busy packing!). It was getting disgusting, so I am now happy to say that right now I am bathed, looking very fresh, and clean smelling.

And with that, we are off tomorrow morning to CA to live it up on the beach for an amazing week with the Hatch relatives. We can't wait!

Hyrum won a silver-toned skull ring with red eyes, that he won't take off for the life of him (yup...still wearing it). Later at home, Thomas got whacked in the forehead on the bunkbead by a fast-spinning ceiling fan and he now has a big bloody bandaid on his head. ......So it was a good day. :)

Today was Sunday. We went to church and a new couple- the Faribanks- in the ward spoke in Sacrament meeting. Sunday school was taught by an animated Bro. Campbell about D&C 89- W.O.W. I have been thinking about this a lot- how our two main gifts from our Father are our bodies and our agency. And how through different addictions, the adversary tries remove those gifts- addictions destroy our bodies and diminish our agency. Right now Jeron and I are listening online to Bro. Asim from our ward transate General Conference in the Urdu language. Crazyness.

There is just something so sweet about watching Jeron hold our babies. He snuggles with them... and sings to them... and kisses them.... and all the boys just love it!

This morning I woke up to make Jeron's lunch. He has to leave the house at 5:00 a.m., so usually I am half asleep. But today I had to wake myself up enough to take a picture... or two. Jakers woke up early today, too. He is a pill because he woke up last night at 9:30, 2:30, and 4:30. I think he is growing. Anyway, he woke up early, and got to snuggle with daddy before work. And he loved every minute of it!

1. Jake is starting to suck his thumb. I found him doing it 4 times today. It is precious! He is doing it right now...
2. Hyrum peed in the toilet all day, and got a billion "potty prizes" (fruit snacks)- so we had to make a special run to Wally World to buy more.
3. Thomas helped me peel corn on the cob for dinner. He fussed the whole time because he was worried about finding a worm in the corn. But at least he learned a new skill! (No worms were found...)
4. Jeron found out that one of his good buddies from the mission is also a bishop. It was special to relate.
5. I got a new purse from Jeron. He got it as a surprise for me. He doesn't think I like it very much, but I really do. It is hip! Thanks, boyfriend! :)

Mom's Special Cheesecake Recipe

Graham Cracker Crust
1 & 1/2 c. finely crushed graham crackers (20 squares)
1/3 c. butter, melted
3 T. sugar

Mix, bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes

Filling
1 cube of cream cheese (8 oz pkg)
1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
1/3 c. lemon juice

Mix, and pour onto crust once crust has cooled. Then refrigerate to let firm up.

These two love eachother and are best buddies already. Last week we went to Stapley pool in Mesa with the Godfreys and the boys had tons of fun splashing in the water.

I'm sad to say that Jake and I are pretty much done nursing. It's been 4 days without, so far. We came pretty far this time (just over 3 months), considering how difficult it is for me to nurse. So I'm pretty sad.

The top 5 things I will miss about nursing Jakey-Jake:
5. The way he looks at me with big wide eyes while he's nursing- I am adored, I'll tell you that much!
4. The little bit of milk dribbles out the corners of his mouth when he smiles while nursing.
3. His little grunts when he's trying to latch on, but can't quite find what he's looking for.
2. The way his little eyes roll back when he is nursing and is just so content! He's like "Aaaaah....this is exactly what I wanted and needed"
1. The way that it made me NEED to stay close to him, at all times. A nursing mom cannot be away from her baby for long- when it's time to nurse, you NEED your baby just as much as they NEED you, and even though it ties you down, it has actually been precious to be so connected.

Tonight was our Joy School graduation night for boyfriends #1 and #2. The celebration was finalized with the kids sliding down a tiny slide- "Sliding into Summer", a cute idea courtesy of Eileen Judd. After 'graduation' we celebrated with Ice Cream Sandwiches and Drumsticks, and some homemade cookies.

Hyrum didn't want the ice cream inside the Drumstick- he asked me to lick it out, saying he only wanted to eat the "Pine Cone". I love you, my little graduate- you always keep me smiling!

I must admit it.... I am in love! And what's not to love....?

...He's been called "Chub-a-licious", a "Little Tenderloin", a "Bundle of Love", "Cutie Booty", "Lil' Pumpkin Pie", and..... an "Arab" (thanks, Grandpa). And now, I call the new love of my life my "Baby Jakers".

With love we welcomed a new addition to our family, baby Jake Anson Hatch, born February 24th, 2009. It's been just over 3 months now, and I still can't get over his sweet spirit...and his fuzzy mop of brown hair, left dimple, and his big drooly gummy smiles! I really am in love!!
